Growing in Christ, challenging mind, body and spirit
Tena Koutou Parents and Friends

A warm welcome to term 2.

Good luck to our basketball teams who are now in the quarter final stages of their competitions.

Young Catholic Leaders Day

On Tuesday our year 7 & 8s travelled to St Joseph's in Timaru where they met up with other year 7 & 8s from the South Canterbury Catholic schools.  Roncalli College student leaders shared their leadership journeys and philosophies and answered questions from the children.  The children also listened to Josh South who was an inspiring speaker and took part in a selection of workshops.  For more information see: Young Catholic Leaders Day

Science Learning in Term 2

Our learning focus for the term is science.  We will be helping the students to follow an inquiry process to address the question,

"God gave us the earth and all that is in it.  Our job is to look after the earth.

How do we look after the earth?"

To find out more about this: Science Inquiry

We will be starting our inquiry with a visit to the Redruth Ecocentre in Timaru.  Briony Woodnorth from Timaru District Council will visit classes before this to talk to the children about sustainability.

Cross Country
Cross country is in week 4.  Please bring trainers daily.

Lorraine Frances-Rees, Principal

We welcome Ambrose and his family; parents Shelley and Dedrick, and younger brother Jordan, to St Joseph's.  The family have returned to South Canterbury from Westport, and Ambrose joins us in Room 1.
Nominations are invited for the election of three parent representatives to the board of Trustees. Nominations close at 12 noon on Friday 20 May 2016.
Nomination forms have been posted to all eligible parents.
If you have any questions regarding the role of a board of trustees representative, or the election process we have a publication from the School Trustees Association available at the office; or contact me during office hours.  Thanks - Claire McCarthy/returning officer.

SINCERE THANKS Our most sincere thanks goes out to you all for the lovely food and support you gave us on my recent accident.  It was all very much appreciated and I feel privileged to be part of a caring school community.  Almost three weeks down and hopefully only three to go! Kind regards, Belinda & Stevie.
Due to other activities on the next two Fridays - Kiwisport tournament for senior students on Friday 6 May; and Redruth Ecocentre visit on Friday 13 May; our winter sausage sizzle will not be starting until Friday 20 May.  Those kind parents who have volunteered to do the cooking for us will receive a copy of the roster today.  Sausages (in bread, with tomato sauce) cost $2 each.  Please send your money in an envelope or small bag with your child's name and number of sausages required.  Please indicate if your child requires a gluten free sausage.

A request/reminder from Atkinson & Dossett and our friendly local policeman: - please don't park past the marked parking spaces on Khan Street  (next to the staff cars).  The buses are unable to get past these vehicles without going out across the other side of the road, and they are unable to see past them properly.  Also please don't park on the bus stops!  When you are dropping your children off, or picking them up please park either on Kabul Street (behind the school), or on Afghan Street (in front of the school).
