Growing in Christ, challenging mind, body and spirit

Tena Koutou Parents and Friends

Welcome to Natalie Rooney our local Olympic silver medallist.  The children were very excited to meet Natalie today and prepared congratulations cards and questions to discuss with Natalie.  Natalie told the children that her parents have always been her biggest supporters, and are her role models in life.  Natalie believes in keeping fit - "A healthy body helps to keep a healthy mind."

Open Classrooms and Jump Rope for Heart
Next Friday 16 we have open classrooms at 11.30am followed by Jump Rope for Heart at 12.  We encourage families to come into school and bring your lunch so you can picnic with the children.  We have also invited families from the preschool and Playcentre and given a general invitation for prospective families through Talking Point.  I know you will all welcome any visitors and help them to feel at home during their visit to our lovely school.

Special Character

The children are now learning about Sacraments.  The key ideas for Sacraments are:

1. There are 7 Sacraments
2. Each Sacrament has its own symbols and rituals
3. Sacraments are a sign of God's grace in the world and in us
4. Sacraments relate to your life journey (te wa)

The RE blog has more information and conversations you could have with your children:

Senior Citizens Visit

Our local senior citizens tell us they very much enjoyed the entertainment our children provided at their monthly meeting last Monday.  The children prepared songs, drama, creative writing and art to share.

Mini Olympics

We've had our own mini-Olympics with medals for competitive achievement and awards for sportsmanship including some "original" events - sock wrestling for instance!  Thank you to the year 7 & 8s for all the effort you put into organising this for us all.

Random Acts of Kindness Day

Thank you Mrs Gardner for organising the shared lunch for Random Acts of Kindness Day

Union Meeting
Staff attendance at the union meeting on Friday is an opportunity for secondary and primary teachers as well as support staff to find out more about the proposed government changes to funding and how this may affect children's learning which is what we care most about.  Mrs Gardner has kindly offered to be at school for children who arrive before 11.30am which will let me attend the meeting.

Sausage Sizzle on Friday
This is still happening - send along the money with your child whatever time they will be starting school this day.  Helpers/Cooks = J Donaldson & Cara McCall.
